El Baile de Sísifo (provisional title) is the fourth work by the Murcia-based company UpArte and is undoubtedly its most ambitious to date due to its commitment to artistic research, its commitment to offering a technical level that is unique in our country, and also due to the high level of production, as we are talking about a cast of 14 renowned acrobats from all over Spain with great cultural diversity (with half a dozen nationalities on stage).

In Baile de Sísifo, the work aims to bring to the stage a metaphor for the meaning—or meaninglessness—of existence, using the visual poetry of contemporary circus and a complex and daring technique as its main languages.

The residencies are designed as a space for research and the creation of new techniques, the articulation of visual dramaturgy and the materialisation of a proposal with high scenic impact.

Among the objectives of this ambitious project are:

– Contemporary creation through circus as a theatrical language of research.

– Innovative stage practices, blending performing arts and experimental theatre.

– A rigorous research process that experiments with the physics of the body, the narrative of movement, and spatial composition.

– Achieving tangible results in the form of conferences, contributing to applied knowledge in the performing arts.

COMPANY

UpArte company was founded in Murcia at the end of 2012 under the umbrella of La Chimenea Escénica. What began as a fun hobby for a group of young people, with no expectations other than to enjoy themselves and have new experiences, soon became a professional project that would capture the hearts and souls of its members, who embarked on a great adventure that would lead them to become the professional circus company they are today.

In its shows, UpArte has always sought to step outside its comfort zone, encouraging me from the outset to aim for the most difficult challenge, a spirit instilled by its trainer Vitaliy Motouzka, a former Russian acrobat trained in the most traditional and classical circus. In addition, the company has always sought new horizons and challenges, committing to a contemporary language, delving deeper into the aesthetics and conceptual aspects of its productions and humour, as well as taking a leap of faith with new disciplines such as juggling, the Russian bar and contemporary dance.

As a result, UpArte offers highly visual shows for all audiences, with a high technical level, entertaining and daring, where it will be difficult to contain a smile or remain glued to your seat.
